At 6 he is still young to be fully diagnosed as a dyslexic. When you say that your son can't form a proper sentence, do you mean it in speaking or writing? Additional english classes at this age might be a bit too much for him. Some kids specially boys are otherwise late bloomers. Give him a bit more time and he might surprise you!In the meantime keep an eye on his sounds and their link with the letters which we call grapheme/phoneme link. Grammar and syntax is what we can wait for to develop later.

I am a mother with two children age 8 & 6.
My daugther is 8 and is in school doing well.
My son is 6 and have been enrolled in kindy since 4 years
old. I notice that he cant form a proper sentence despite
having been to kindy for 3 years and also sending him for
addl english classes.
I suspect my son may have dyslexia and would
like to bring him for an assessment.

Please, i like to enrol as a member. How do i do that and how much will that be?

Hi Suet,

I didn't know Foo Shearn's your son. My son Rashad goes to USJ3 Dyslexia Center with him. Nice knowing you properly. I read your posts through Lim.. now there's another dimension to my knowledge of you

Hi Suet,

I recently got interested in detox program and after reading Brenda Watson's book, 'The Detox Strategy', I can see why you are into organic food. I am not as lucky as you to hv a garden to farm organic produce. But am now more conscious of buying organic food and reading food labels.

I thought I would like share some information that I have learnt from Watson's book (please disregard if you have already heard about it). She explains that organic diet and certain detox program can help autistic and Ad/HD children. Such diets eliminate the toxins from the body and help to calm them and build better brain cells connection.

She also recommends exercising on a rebounder (trampoline) to speed up elimination of toxins from the body. I find it to be the best and easiest way for indoor exercise, ie. can walk, run, jog or jump on the rebounder. No need to walk around the park or take evening walk anymore! Plus, very good for those who has weak knees or joint problem. Have you tried exercising on a rebounder? Please share your experience.

Hello Suetsen,

My name is Maithe (French born girl) and have been living in Malaysia for the past 6 1/2 years and love it. Am impressed with yr experience in gardening and just wanted to compliment you on your achievements in organic farming! Am going to vipassana on the East Coast and just was browsing the net to find people's view and experience on this...'cos never done it and am a bit weary of doing 10 hrs a day when I can sit for no more than 45mns at a time! Well, will see if I can stand getting up that early and not eat at night! Wish me luck! Take care. :) Maithe.

Hi Tarquin!

I'm glad to know there is a way to help the dyslexia child. You give me a hope to my son. Do you mind sharing your stories with me. I would like to know what type of motivation that made you success. What school had you studied during your secondary / primary school?

My son is a Chinese educated child. He is 9 years old. His memory is very poor. He is not concentrated in his study. He never border what is going on around him, example : he never ask question that he see / watch from TV.

Hi Suet Sen, while you were at the Uni of Nottingham, did you come across the MA in Special Needs that is offered by their Education Dept? I enrolled for this course and found it very good for personal, social and emotional dev. especially in relation to understanding children with special needs (such as dyslexia, AD/HD, Autistic, Behavioural/Emotional Disorders, etc). This course, not only, shed light on the needs of these special children but also I hv gain tremendously in understanding my deeper self and draw from my inner strength to teach them. It has been said that, "we need to know ourserves first before we can teach others." How true!

I am an early childhood educator and do understnd your frustration in getting the relevant people at govt level to look at the needs and right of all children for education. Children nowadays hv more learning disability than before and it is time for us to look at the environment and systems rather than saying that it is the child's problem, therefore treat him first before sending to school. The education system in Msia has flaws and our children are failing because of that!

Dear Suet,

I was searching for someone who grows the fig tree in Malaysia and I am very glad and very pleasantly surprised that you managed to grow 3 of them outside your house !
And the fruits you produce are so bountiful ! i am interested to plant this unique fruit tree in my garden and I would appreciate if you could tell me how I could obtain a seedling for this useful tree.

Thank you so much,
Juat
