Schools with Dyslexia Programme
How do I enrol my child in this programme?
According to Tn. Syed Abdillah, Jabatan Pendidikan Khas (JPK), there are 2 ways to do this: school takes the initiative, or parents take the initiative.
How do schools take the initiative?
- Teacher notices that child still cannot read after completingTahun 1
- Child is placed in a remedial class for a period of one month.
- If there is no improvement, then teacher conducts ISD testingon child
- If child is suspected to be dyslexic, teacher informs parents
- Parents take ISD results and child to an appointed doctor forconfirmation
- If dyslexia is confirmed, parents go to the nearest UnitPendidikan Khas office and apply for child to be placedin a suitable school.
How do parents take the initiative?
- Parents suspect child to be dyslexic
- Parents approach child’s school for help to conduct ISD testing
- If suspicion is confirmed, parents take ISD results and child to an appointed doctor for further confirmation
- Parents apply for child to be placed in a suitable school.

Suet, I would appreciate it if you could just email me. My son is currently in std 2 in a private school. I don’t want him to be removed from a private school but is there a way to keep him in the school but let him go through a dyslexia test and programme? Thanks in advance.
Not confirmed yet and don’t know where to go to find the right answers or the right people. Thanks

I dont have support from his school and the specialist from HUKM advised me to transfer him to other school. He was not accepted for sekolah khas because his IQ was normal. He has a major problem with communication and no body want to be his friend. My second son (7 yrs old)started to show a problem with learning disabilities and I also have hyperactive twins boys (4yrs old). My husband tried to get info from kementerian but nobody can help us. hi there and how are you coping? I am a mom of a 9 yrs old boy, he was diagnosed with ADHD and is a slow learner, struggling at school as he does not have friends and prefers adults. The school, which is a private school is also facing challenges as they claim that they lack in the ability to manage his needs as he learns better one to one. i have never stopped looking for a suitable school or a education centre that will be able to take him and teach patiently. i am also considering homeschool centres. Please help.

Hi, I’m Mdm Amy. My background is a principal & teacher to an early childhood center in Klang Valley. I’m happy to share with all parents about a learning aid that i believe can enhance the reading ability to the any student with learning difficulties. It can help them to pronounce and enhance their vocabulary in english and also give them the understanding of the whole learning process. In a long run it is not a worry for you to keep them at home as they can handle themselves in learning and at their own pace. Please do not hesitate to ask for more detail from me by email or sms me at 012-3160480. Thank you.

Is there any one I can get him to see for a diagnostic? I m living nearby to Tmn Tun and saw from your list one of TTDI school has these programs for kids like him. Thanks!

Hi, I just took my 5 year old son to see a speech therapist this afternoon and after sitting for the ISD test, my son is confirmed to be dyslexic. He is talkactive and hyperactive but has serious problems in recognising alphabets and numbers. Looking for a home tutor trained in dyslexic in JB area. Have any idea?

Speaking Chinese and English at home.He good in sing, and memorizing all the words, but he can read the questions on the paper. Just dont know what to do. My son is 9 year old. He is studying in a Chinese government school. He has very poor memory. He cant concentrate in studies. He is a slow learner. Whatever you taught him, within few minutes/hours/days, he might forget. He cant explain / write / spell most of the words that you asked him. When you asked him to do reading, he cant read fluently.
During his exam, he never think / put effort to answer the questions, sometimes he even started to answer before he understand the whole question. He slept in the exam. His essay is always very short and words given were not using by him (may be he cant understand the words that given to make sentences). The most he can score for the comprehensive (for Chinese , B Malaysia & English subject) is only 1 to 2 questions (normally there are 5 questions need to be answered).
What can I do in order he may make improvement? Please advice.

My son is 9 yrs old and confirmed dyslexia. He will attend a 3 mths course at dyslexia centre. Moving forward, I was advised to register him to school with dyslexia program. I understand Tmn Maluri has a school with this program. Can anybody tell me more about this school?
Comment by Mrs. Tan | August 24, 2009 |
Dear Suet, I’m glad i found your website. I’ve been reading http://www.dyslexia-parent.com/ for about 5 years now, and have tried to find a place to test my son for dyslexia ( so far all the test provide online are too expensive for me)- could you recommend a local tester. I suspect he is dyslexic as he has problem concentrating on his homework especially maths. He did ok in tahap 1 ( only in tahun 3) and started to have problems again in Tahun 4, and now he is in Tahun 5, and he is failing in almost all of his subjects.
You mentioned that your son is currently taking the Dyslexia programme. Can you tell me more about it? I don’t know what else to do, my son is having frequent temper tantrums and will start crying everytime I tell him to do his homework especially maths. Please email me.
